The 14-Yr-Previous Is Suspected of Bludgeoning 4 Hens to Demise at Rooster Coop Earlier This June

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 14-year-old boy on Wednesday for allegedly killing chickens in Isla Vista earlier this month.

The Sheriff’s Workplace sought the neighborhood’s help in monitoring down the suspect, releasing photos of the masked teen on the scene of the crime. | Credit score: Sheriff’s Workplace

On June 16, the Sheriff’s Workplace responded to studies of 4 useless chickens at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church on the 6500 block of Picasso Highway in Isla Vista.

After additional investigation and witness accounts, sheriff’s investigators suspected a single particular person dedicated the act by trespassing right into a locked hen coop owned by the Isla Vista Group Companies District’s Compost Collective and beating the chickens to loss of life with a bat-like gadget, mentioned Raquel Zick, public data officer for the Sheriff’s Workplace.

“This heinous act has left us all in shock and sorrow,” wrote Carly Marto, program supervisor of the I.V. Compost Collective, in an Instagram publish the day after the killings. “Our chickens were not just animals, but cherished members of our community. They brought us joy and companionship, and their loss will be deeply felt.”

The collective held a memorial service for the hens — Shadow, Sunshine, Speckles, and Siracha — on June 18 on the church.

Then on the afternoon of June 26, an nameless member of the neighborhood noticed the suspect on El Greco close to Embarcadero del Mar. Deputies detained the juvenile and decided that he was the suspect within the case primarily based on supporting proof. The suspect was later launched to his guardian, and the case now heads to juvenile court docket.

“Well bless their hearts.”
