LPGA enacts restrictions on trans-identified male participation

The decision about whether a trans-identified male can participate in women’s competitions rests in the hands of an “expert panel.” LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan defended the new policy as “reflective of an extensive, science-based and inclusive approach.”

“The coverage represents our continued dedication to making sure that every one really feel welcome inside our group, whereas preserving the equity and aggressive fairness of our elite competitions,” Samaan mentioned.   

In October, a letter written by over 270 skilled feminine golfers calling on the LPGA to make sure that trans-identified males couldn’t compete was made public. The letter was written in August. On the time, a trans-identified male golfer named Hailey Davidson was competing within the second stage of the LPGA qualifying college.

The revisions of the insurance policies on the LPGA and USGA come amid considerations in regards to the equity of trans-identified males competing in girls’s sports activities in gentle of the organic variations between women and men.

These considerations have been exacerbated when Lia (Will) Thomas, a trans-identified athlete on the College of Pennsylvania, started shattering girls’s swimming information after becoming a member of the ladies’s swimming crew on the college following three seasons of competitors as a member of the boys’s swimming crew.
