Evangelist killed by suspected Muslim extremists in Uganda

NAIROBI, Kenya — Suspected Muslim extremists posing as moto-taxi drivers killed an evangelist in central Uganda shortly after he preached at a Gospel occasion, sources stated.

Alfred Kitenga was overwhelmed and stabbed at about 9:30 p.m. alongside the Northern Bypass in Kawaala, Wakiso District, after he and his spouse, Anna Grace Nabirye, had been returning dwelling from preaching within the Namungoona space of Kampala, she stated.

After the couple spent the night preaching in Namungoona as a part of an evangelistic crew, 4 individuals who recognized themselves as motorbike taxi drivers approached them, saying they had been Christians who had attended the occasion, and provided them free transport dwelling, based on Nabirye.

“We believed them because they said they were fellow believers who had listened to the message,” Nabirye instructed Morning Star Information.

Through the journey, the riders prompt an alternate route by way of Kasangati, citing site visitors congestion and the late hour, she stated, and the couple agreed to the change.

Nabirye stated she later turned uneasy when one of many drivers repeatedly spoke by telephone in a language she didn’t perceive. Shortly afterward, three further males confirmed up.

“What followed was sudden and violent,” she stated.

The attackers turned on the couple, beating them severely, and through the assault, they stabbed Kitenga, fatally wounding him, Nabirye stated. They later took her away and left her close to her dwelling, enabling her to outlive.

She alerted church leaders, who rushed to the location of the assault and located Kitinga’s physique mendacity alongside a roadside. They notified police, who took the physique to a mortuary for postmortem examination.                                                   

Church leaders expressed shock and grief, describing Kitenga as a devoted evangelist dedicated to spreading the Gospel, significantly amongst Muslim communities.

“This is a painful loss for the Body of Christ,” one native church chief stated, calling for prayers and help for the bereaved household.

Authorities have launched investigations into the killing. At this writing, no motive has been confirmed, and no suspects have been arrested.

The incident sparked concern amongst Christian teams concerning the security of evangelists, particularly these conducting outreach missions within the night hours. Some leaders at the moment are urging larger warning and safety measures for ministry groups working within the subject.

As investigations proceed, the dying of Kitenga has left his household, church and wider Christian group in mourning.

The assault was the most recent of many cases of persecution of Christians in Uganda that Morning Star Information has documented.
